Executive Director

Kenneth Edwin Sloan was born in 1946 in Decatur, Texas, USA. He has been Executive Director of the Grof Foundation since its launch in October of 2014 and has responsibility for day-to-day operations and projects .  He had held this same position with the Grof Foundation’s predecessor organization the Association for Holotropic Breathwork, International (AHBI) since January of 2010. He had been a member of AHBI since 1990 and served as Secretary of AHBI from 2004 through October of 2008, then as President until the end of 2009. Kenneth was certified for Holotropic Breathwork facilitation in 1997 and lives in Steinen, Germany, in the southwest corner of the Black Forest with his partner Petra, and their two daughters.  Kenneth is also the founder of Stream of Experience Productions, a publisher of books related to consciousness research, which was the publisher of Stan Grof’s 2012 book Healing Our Deepest Wounds. Since 1998 Ken and Petra (who is also certified in Holotropic Breathwork) have given regular residential Holotropic Breathwork weekend workshops and sometimes longer retreats in their home which doubles as a Buddhist retreat center. Kenneth and Petra have been trained and certified by Albrecht Mahr (Institute for Systemic and Integrative Solutions in Wuerzburg, Germany) to lead systems constellations. They offer systemic constellation workshops in Germany and Switzerland focused on the relationship between people and nature as well as sometimes using systemic constellations as a support for integration after Holotropic Breathwork. Kenneth is also the publisher and co-editor of a book about systemic constellation work with nature, Returning to Membership in Earth Community, and the author of a novel based on past-life experiences from Holotropic Breathwork sessions, entitled The Moor Express.

Spiritual Emergence Network Director

ted_esserTed Esser, Ph.D., has been a spiritual counselor and the Director of Operations for the Spiritual Emergence Network (SEN) since 2004. SEN was founded by Christina Grof in 1980 and as of 2015 is a part of the Grof Foundation. Ted has been a practitioner of Holotropic Breathwork since 2003. He received an MA in Philosophy & Religion from the California Institute of Integral Studies’ Philosophy, Cosmology & Consciousness program where he studied with Stan Grof, and a PhD from their East/West Psychology program (Consciousness Studies track). Some of the results and experiences from writing his dissertation, Lucid Dreaming, Kundalini, the Divine, and Nonduality: A Transpersonal Narrative Study were published as a contributing author in Lucid Dreaming: New Perspectives to Consciousness in Sleep. He has had training and experience with several spiritual traditions with a special interest in the place where secular mysticism, global esoteric religious syncretism, and transpersonal philosophy meet. He has had training at The Monroe Institute and is in the process of doing a 6-year lay Tibetan Buddhist practioner’s version of the traditional 3-year retreat with Lama Palden Drolma. He currently teaches graduate-level Consciousness Studies and Transpersonal Psychology classes at John F. Kennedy University and Sofia University (formerly the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology). He is married with three children in Marin County, CA.

Office Manager

Brian Bauer has been participating in Holotropic Breathwork since 1997 and has completed several training modules. He is responsible for the Grof Foundation Office particularly payments and incoming electronic and postal mail. He is also the gate-keeper and custodian for the various online communities maintained by the Grof Foundation. Brian is a Reiki Master Teacher, mentored by John Harvey Gray, the longest-practicing Reiki Master in the West; and a meditation instructor in Transcendental Medtitation and Vipassana. He regularly assists in Holotropic Breathwork workshops in New England.  He lives in Somerville, Mass.

Inner Door Editor

Sharanya Naik has been a practitioner of Holotropic Breathwork since 1996. She was certified as a facilitator in 2003 and has since facilitated the Holotropic process for groups and individuals in many cities in the US and in India. She has been a frequent contributor to The Inner Door – a journal previously focused on Holotropic Breathwork practitioners – which she now edits and expects to expand to address the broader range of the Grof legacy.  Sharanya is a student of many kinds of bodywork. She is a certified massage therapist, she practiced Yoga and Yoga-Nidra in her early years, and was an Indian Classical and American Modern Dancer for most of her life. She has been a school-teacher for the last 23 years and lives in Montclair, New Jersey.
