President
Martin Boroson Martin (Marty) Boroson studied philosophy at Yale University and earned an MBA from the Yale School of Management. He was certified to facilitate Holotropic Breathwork in 1993 and facilitated monthly workshops in Ireland with the Transpersonal Group until 2000. His article, Radar to the Infinite, relating Holotropic Breathwork to the spectrum psychology of Ken Wilber, was translated by AHBI into German, Spanish and Portuguese. He is the author of the creation story, Becoming Me, based on his holotropic adventures, and now uses this book to teach interfaith spirituality to children and adults. A student of Zen Buddhism, Marty has co-facilitated combined Holotropic Breathwork and Zen workshops and is fascinated by the experiential differences between these two forms. His most recent book is One Moment Meditation: Stillness for People on the Go. He trains managers in holistic approaches to decision-making, and lives in England.
Vice President
Ted Riskin Ted Riskin, LCSW, is a psychotherapist specializing in relationship issues and cognitive therapy. Along with his Grof certification, he is also certified in Core Energetics, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Integration Process, hypnotherapy, and EMDR. Since January 1997, he has been facilitating Holotropic workshops regularly in New Jersey, New York City, and Florida, along with the occasional weekend retreat elsewhere. He is on the faculties of Integration Concepts and the Institute of Core Energetics, and he presents workshops for therapists called “Body, Breath,and Spirit in Your Clinical Practice.” Unable to kick his 1 CD per week music habit, he uses the music to create session sets that he makes available to Holotropic and other Breathwork practitioners internationally. He served for eight years as the music editor for The Inner Door and five years as AHBI’s President.
Secretary
Karey PohnKarey Pohn has more than 20 years experience as a management consultant, Lawyer, and entrepreneur. She obtained her BS in Finance and JD from the University of Colorado. Karey is a licensed attorney in California and Illinois. She also has a Ph.D. in Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, California. Karey has researched the organizing principles of play and creativity. Her dissertation was a website Playing the Cosmic Game: Exploring Play’s Archetypal Aspects Through the Kaleidoscope of Culture. It was based on the work of Dr. Stanislav Grof and showed how this universal death/rebirth archetype is truly at the heart of the cosmos, and she illustrated this through the myths of Shiva’s dice game, quantum physics and chaos theory and in popular culture using Disneyland and the movies Mary Poppins and Chicago. Karey brings the entrepreneurial knowledge of having been a partner of an international importing manufacturing business. Additionally, she is a Certified Trainer in Neuro Linguistics. Her legal and academic background, along with her professional experience enable Karey to help her clients anticipate challenges and develop creative strategies to achieve their goals. Karey has worked with geographically diverse clients from Australia, Europe, and Asia. Her experience includes organizational and leadership development, team building, process analysis and development, as well as cultural integration issues related to mergers/acquisitions.
Treasurer
Veronica Munoz M Verónica Muñoz M. graduated with a degree in Psychology from the Catholic University of Chile, and later obtained her MBA from the University of Chile.  She has worked in Human Resources management and development, as well as a Psychology professor.  Throughout her life Verónica has always pursued self-exploration, personal growth, and spirituality.  Since 1999, she has had the most profound and transformative experiences though holotropic journeys.  In 2009, she certified as a Holotropic Breathwork Facilitador in Taos, New Mexico.  Since then, Verónica has facilitated at workshops in South America, USA, and Europe; and at Grof Transpersonal Training modules.  In 2014, after six years of extensive travel, she left her homeland at the base of the Andes in Chile, and settled in San Diego, California.  As a beautiful synchronicity, she started this new stage of her life at the same time that the Grof Foundation was being born.
Director
Jay Dufrechou graduated from Stanford University with a degree in English followed by a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley. In the mid 1990s, in the midst of working as an attorney in Santa Clara County, California, Jay experienced spiritual emergence, leading him into the residential doctoral program at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (now Sofia University). His dissertation, which involved gathering stories of grief, weeping and other deep emotions in response to intimate connection with nature, received the 2002 Sidney Jourard Award from the Humanistic Division of the American Psychological Association. In 1999, Jay moved with his family to Helena, Montana, where he developed a mediation practice focusing on disputes in the workers compensation system and spent much time with horses, goats and chickens. He has worked as adjunct faculty for ITP and the California Institute of Integral Studies, primarily supervising doctoral research, including several studies involving Holotropic Breathwork and/or the Grofian psychology. Jay is one of the founders of The Institute of Transpersonal and Archetypal Studies (ITAS), offering workshops on a range of transpersonal topics, including archetypal astrology and the psychologies of Carl Jung and Stanislav Grof. Jay first experienced Holotropic Breathwork in 1996 and received certification as a Holotropic Breathwork facilitator in 2015. He has been on facilitation teams in the US, UK, India and China.
Spiritual Emergence Network USA
ted_esserTed Esser, Ph.D., has been a spiritual counselor and the Director of Operations for the Spiritual Emergence Network (SEN) USA since 2004. SEN was founded by Christina Grof in 1980 and as of 2015 became a part of the Grof Foundation. Ted has been a practitioner of Holotropic Breathwork since 2003. He received an MA in Philosophy & Religion from the California Institute of Integral Studies’ Philosophy, Cosmology & Consciousness program where he studied with Stan Grof, and a PhD from their East/West Psychology program (Consciousness Studies track). Some of the results and experiences from writing his dissertation, Lucid Dreaming, Kundalini, the Divine, and Nonduality: A Transpersonal Narrative Study were published as a contributing author in Lucid Dreaming: New Perspectives to Consciousness in Sleep. He has had training and experience with several spiritual traditions with a special interest in the place where secular mysticism, global esoteric religious syncretism, and transpersonal philosophy meet. He has had training at The Monroe Institute and is in the process of doing a 6-year lay Tibetan Buddhist practitioner’s version of the traditional 3-year retreat with Lama Palden Drolma. He currently teaches graduate-level Consciousness Studies and Transpersonal Psychology classes at John F. Kennedy University and Sofia University (formerly the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology). He is a Founding Director of the International Spiritual Emergence Network (ISEN). He is married and lives with his wife and three children in Marin County, CA.
