Each year, millions of passwords are exposed in data breaches that end up for sale on the dark web. These stolen credentials can be used to hijack your accounts, Identify exposed passwords quickly, fraudulent transactions, and more.

It’s hard to keep track of every new breach as it happens, but 1Password is on the lookout for you. The Password Exposure Test (PET) scans for leaked and weak passwords in your vault that might have been a part of a known data leak. If the passwords match a compromised account, you’ll be alerted and prompted to change the password for that account before criminals take advantage of it.

Identify Exposed Passwords Quickly: Enhance Your Security

The Exposed Passwords report uses a trusted web service to search the first five digits of your password hashes against databases of known leaked passwords, then compares them locally to identify whether your hash appears in any of those lists. This is a good indicator that you should create a unique password for offending accounts or services.

In the Weak Passwords report, you’ll see passwords that are based on easy-to-guess base words or variations on them, such as “123456” and “qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm”. This is an indication that your employees’ passwords are not as strong as they should be and that they are at risk of being exposed in a data breach.

Passwords that are weak or have been exposed in a data breach will be marked as such on your employee’s password page in the admin console, and also on their Accounts page for individual apps. In addition, these passwords will appear as Finding types of Weak Password and/or Leaked password in the Push admin console.
